There was a recent article on MSN.com in the Lifestyle section that talked about several women who had successfully made a major change in their careers. Basically, these were women who finally chose to follow their dreams. And although the article was gender specific you could just as easily apply the advice these dreamers shared to either gender.
So if you have a dream that you want to fulfill here are the major points of interest that will help you get your new life started:
- Everybody has the potential to achieve something great.
- As long as you are breathing it is not too late to step up and try something new.
- There are always plenty of reasons to postpone but when you realize the dream is worth the time it’s time to put up or stop dreaming.
- Be creative with your circumstances turn it around if you need to to keep moving forward.
- Dream Big but break down your goals into bite-size pieces.
- Connect with a mentor pick their brain but make sure you offer something of value back.
- Don’t wait, put a business plan together, your time and money is too valuable to waste.
- Don’t quit your day job, ask yourself whether you have the drive needed and whether you can afford to live without a paycheck for a while.
- Age is not an excuse it is an incentive to roll up your sleeves and go to work.
- When all else fails do-it-yourself. If others aren’t willing to help you, find a way to get there on your own.
- Discipline yourself; you must organize your time with your family, current job or home life and your new career.
- Inform others of what you want to accomplish this will help hold you accountable and push you forward.
Dreams are not a fairy tale if you are willing to put in the effort to make things happen. It is the confidence to take the first step and to continue to push through the tough times that is for many the biggest hurtle. Jack Nicklaus, a champion golfer stated that “Confidence is the most important single factor in this game, and no matter how great your talent, there is only one way to obtain it-work.” If there is one thing you need to understand, it is that you have everything you need to achieve your dream but in order to have the ‘confidence’ to get there you must do one thing; WORK FOR IT.
